The Sacred Pause: How Jesus Went After the One

We often talk about how Jesus “went after the one”—how He left the ninety and nine to find the one lost sheep. It’s a beautiful image of our worth to Him, and of His tireless love. But lately, I’ve been thinking… maybe going after the one wasn’t always about chasing someone down.

Sometimes, it was about stopping. Pausing. Noticing.

Jesus didn’t live in a frenzy. He wasn’t rushing from one miracle to the next. He had all the power of heaven in His hands—and yet He always made time for the one.

He paused when a woman reached out to touch His robe in a crowded street.
He paused to talk to a Samaritan woman at a well in the heat of the day.
He paused when a grieving mother cried out, even as He was headed somewhere else.
He paused to find Peter, the one who had denied Him, and gently restore his heart.

The world tells us to keep moving, keep producing, keep going. But Christ shows us that sometimes the holiest work is found in sacred interruptions—the kind that tug at your heart and whisper, “Slow down… they need you.”

Lately, I’ve been trying to live a little more like that. To put my phone down when someone walks in the room. To answer that feeling that I should check in on someone. To hang out with Crash a little longer at bedtime, even when the to-do list is waiting.

Because maybe “going after the one” isn’t always dramatic.
Maybe it’s noticing.
Maybe it’s pausing.
Maybe it’s being willing to stop the spin of our own world to gently step into someone else’s for a moment.

Just like Jesus did.

And still does.
